The New Racecar from Stralsund College - Rollout of the TY2007
On June 8th it was finally completed. On this sunny day, the new Formula Student racecar from Stralsund College was ceremonially presented in public. Students, Professors, and members of the student-racing team had the possibility to experience and gaze at the vehicle from Stralsund's racing stable close up at an open air event. On the way to this technological masterpiece, the professional driving dynamics simulation with CarMaker played a decisive part in the vehicle's development.
The racing vehicle named TY2007 sticks out especially because of its dynamic design and its excellent architecture. By using IPG-KINEMATICS, an ingenious chassis suspension was developed which promises an outstanding road holding ability. In comparison to its previous model, the TY2007's driving dynamics has been extensively upgraded which the Stralsund's students achieved thanks due to their intensive work with CarMaker.
The students extensively tested their new Formula Student vehicle by numerous virtual test runs. Thereby, a modelled TY2007 was used in simulation over common racetracks like Hockenheim-Ring or Nürburgring-Nordschleife. Furthermore, the prospective engineers arranged their own driving manoeuvres to purposefully evaluate the braking, accelerating and cornering ability of their racecar. The driving characteristics were animated with IPG-MOVIE and the most important quantities were analysed in detail with IPG-CONTROL. Thus the team could learn a lot about the driving dynamics' relations - today many of Stralsund's students can be called driving dynamics experts.
Northern Germany's race sport pioneers
The Stralsund's student-racing team is one of the Formula Student's pioneers in Germany. It was founded in 1999 as the first German Formula Student team and in the following year took part in Birmingham's Formula Student event. Besides the continuous participation in the competitions in England, the team have already started at Formula SAE events outside Europe, twice in Australia and once in USA.
Thanks in part to the race sport enthusiasm of Stralsund, the Formula Student competition also came to Germany during the last year. At the event in Hockenheim, 43 academic teams started and battled on two exciting racing days for the best overall result in the dynamic and static competitions.
We at IPG hope that the Stralsund's College students and professors will keep their race sport passion for a long time, if this happens we can look forward to various successes from the Northern Germany's race sport pioneers!
