Blind bends require utmost concentration of the driver - and they are a real challenge for driver assistance systems.

For the development of driver assistance systems like adaptive cruise control (ACC) CarMaker's integrated traffic module, IPGTraffic, offers the possibility to simulate the traffic around the vehicle. The animation shows a test drive with ACC system. The controller adapts the speed to the actual traffic situation by accelerating and braking independently. To test this functionality different scenarios are simulated, e.g. slow vehicles driving ahead, overtaking maneuvers and traffic coming from the front.

Test your intersection assistant on the virtual tracks of CarMaker! There is no limit to the buildup of traffic scenarios - either in terms of the number of objects nor to the length of the single-lane or multi-lane tracks.

The direct comparison with a reference vehicle (pale yellow VW New Beetle) without roll stabilization shows that the simulated yellow New Beetle with active roll stabilization achieves a 4 percent higher maximum velocity in the 36 meter slalom test. The comparatively high roll angle of the reference vehicle and its tendency to break away is remarkable. In contrast, the roll movements of the vehicle with active roll bars is reduced to the minimum; it is agile and stabile, stays better on the ideal track around the pylons and is easier to control than the reference vehicle.

The comparison of the shaded reference vehicle shows that the BMW with ABS stays controllable after an emergency brake on different surface frictions and does not break away. The ABS provides a braking pressure that does not get too high on the side with the non-slip surface. The virtual driver is able to hold the vehicle on the track. In contrast, the reference vehicle brakes stronger on the side with the non-slip surface and the steering angle gets so high that the vehicle breaks away at the front. The animation can be viewed from two perspectives; the upper movie shows the scene from the front, the bottom from the back.

OEMs can optimally finetune the controller of an ABS system with CarMaker. The animation shows an emergency stop on a road with different friction coefficients (mµ-split braking). The yellow test vehicle and the shadowed reference vehicle are both equipped with ABS, but the systems are tuned differently. The braking distance of the reference vehicle is much longer.

You can perform driving tests with CarMaker on virtual test tracks that are based on measured road data. The animation shows a drive on the Nürburgring Northern loop, the surface is additionally provided with artificial unevenness.

MotorcycleMaker is the vehicle specific variant of CarMaker and has the same functionality as CarMaker. The movie shows a motorcycle driving on the Nürburgring Northern Loop. The virtual test track is based on measured road data and has additionally been provided with artificial unevenness.

Like MotorcycleMaker, TruckMaker has the same functionality as CarMaker. Watch the animation and see how the truck handles the unevenness on the Nürburgring. The virtual test track is also based on measured data.

With the animation tool IPGMovie you have many possibilities to watch, record and export your virtual test drives. As an example, it can be useful to view the driving maneuvers from different perspectives to scrutinize the driving behavior. With IPGMovie you can individually choose the camera position.
